SHAW has been invited to provide guides to skate with visually-impaired-persons from BOLD (Blind Outdoor Leisure Development). BOLD has counted on SHAW’s support for the past three years. It is an excellent outreach event that generates good publicity. It is also inspirational for sighted people to see the determination and courage of visually impaired individuals.
BOLD pays for and schedules the Wilson Park ice time.
SHAW supported the event in the past by providing Guides (skaters) to skate with each Visually-Impaired-Person (VIP) and off-ice volunteers to welcome VIPs, assist with lacing skates, and answer questions.
Soon DIBs will be available for this event. We are looking at about 10 skaters and 2 SHAW adult volunteers off-ice to interact with VIPS and to assist with skate tying. VIPs may physically lean on the SHAW Guide for support so SHAW skaters should be Pee Wee and older.
Saturday, Sept 24 10:00a-12p
Only a helmet and skates are required for your SHAW skater.
