About Us
Our mission is to create an inclusive youth hockey community built on our SHAW principles:
Sportsmanship, Having fun, Attitude, and Working together, where every player belongs and grows because
Hockey Builds Better People.
Our S.H.A.W Core Values:
S - Sportsmanship
We value respect and fairness in every situation. Everyone is encouraged to uphold the spirit of competition, treat others with dignity, and appreciate the experience, regardless of outcome.
H - Having Fun
Hockey is fun! We prioritize joy, enthusiasm, and a lifelong love of the sport as the foundation for learning and development.
A - Attitude
We face challenges with a positive outlook and an open mind. Supporting one another, learning from mistakes, and striving to improve are central to our journey.
W - Working Together
Success is built on teamwork and unity. We celebrate collaboration, friendship, and reaching our goals together, knowing our greatest achievements come when we support each other.
Since 1970, the Southeastern Hockey Association of Wisconsin (SHAW) has been the foundation of youth hockey in Milwaukee, Racine, and eastern Waukesha Counties. Through hockey, SHAW has instilled the values of competition, fitness, teamwork, and community.
SHAW has grown from having a couple of teams, composed mostly of 8- to 14-year-olds, to now having 27 teams with athletes aged 3- to 18-years old. SHAW’s teams have also expanded beyond coed-only teams, as approximately 25% of our athletes are females between the ages of 5 and 14. SHAW girls can play on girls'-only teams from the 8U level through 14U and on co-ed teams up to 18U. SHAW is also one of only three associations in Wisconsin with a program dedicated to players with special needs through our Pirates program. SHAW Pirates hockey provides special-needs athletes with the opportunity to play and compete in a fast-paced, highly physical sport, the same as their peers.
SHAW is deeply committed to helping young people reach their full potential and prepare them with habits and experiences for a productive and healthy adulthood. SHAW players reside in the following school districts:
- Bay View
- Cudahy
- Franklin
- Greendale
- Greenfield
- Hales Corners
- Milwaukee (South of I94)
- Muskego
- New Berlin Eisenhower High School Boundary
- Oak Creek
- St Francis
- South Milwaukee
- West Allis
- West Milwaukee
Residents of Northern Racine County communities with no association serving their residence are also eligible (Caledonia, Wind Lake, Franksville, etc.).
